it’s bittersweet when a child leaves for university.
There’s a sense of loss, but also an exciting sense of gain —
as in, a newly claimed spare room. The owner of this Toronto
home had a clear vision for her daughter’s former bedroom
when she called interior designer Anne Hepfer. “She’d seen
my own red den with a global-ethnic vibe in a previous issue
of House & Home,” says Hepfer. “It was exactly the look she
was after.” The owner’s only conditions: she didn’t want the
feel of a stuffy old library, and her dream den had to include
a comfortable Murphy bed for her daughter’s visits.
