The glitterati have invaded
Silicon Valley! Or at least it felt that way on the hottest
runways for fall/winter ’08, as geek met chic and high
tech hooked up with high style. In New York, Calvin
Klein models marched in a severe combo of blacks
and greys with a touch of glitter: think city power
suit crossed with Blade Runner and you’ll get the
perfectly tailored gist. Across the pond in Paris, Nicolas
Ghesquière took the venerable house of Balenciaga in
an altogether sci-fi direction with glossy hits of leather
and latex (we half expected to see a model pull out a ray
gun). Could it be that we’re letting all our beloved techno-glam gadgetry call the shots on how we dress? BlackBerrys

and iPods and Zunes — oh my!
High tech on the home front has a shiny new look
that broadcasts a distinctly urban 21st-century
vibe. A luxe wallpaper from hot Brit firm Graham
& Brown seems influenced by a computer circuit
board. We can’t say enough about the sculptural
Plexiglas sound system from Ferguson Hill (a must-
have for the tech- and style-savvy sets). And, since we
mentioned ray guns, you just try and stop the kids from
playing robots versus space invaders with that über-cool
Dyson handheld while you’re blogging — and sitting
pretty — at Artifort’s swanky Globus workstation. This
is the future, available right now.
