I’ve lived in my condo for just over a year
and would like to completely redo the main
bathroom — it’s long overdue! I would like
a more contemporary look and like the
idea of a vessel-style sink. I also need a bit
of storage for toiletries and towels. I like
neutrals but don’t mind a bit of colour.

Stock bathroom vanities have come a long way in recent years and are much
more affordable than custom designs. The Manhattan collection from Maax
(shown, www.maax.com) is available in three widths — 24, 30 or 36 inches —
and the line includes wall-mounted storage modules you can pair with a mirror
above the vanity. Your space looks like it can accommodate the generous 36-inch
model with a mirror above flanked by storage modules on either side.
Accent the vanity with fixtures in a classic chrome
finish — Natphil’s Piper single-hole lavatory faucet has
a simple look and will coordinate with Natphil’s Spin
thermostatic shower valve and spout for the tub
( www.natphil.com). You can’t go wrong with porcelain
tile in a neutral colour like taupe or cement grey for the
floor, or use the same tile on both floor and shower
walls. Larger tiles are quite popular now and can make
a small space feel larger since there are fewer grout
lines — consider a 12" x 24" tile for floors and walls.
If you want a slight contrast, a white rectangular tile
(3" x 6" or larger) for the shower walls always works.
White grout can discolour quickly in a shower, so choose a medium grey or taupe
grout. If you prefer taking showers, a custom frameless glass door is a sleek option,
but if you’re a bath lover, opt for a simple shower curtain.
Add a touch of colour with wall paint and accessories. For walls, try Boiled
Wool (MS177) from Valspar’s Martha Stewart Collection, or if you like the idea
of a slightly purple tone, try Summer Storm (MS205) (shown, www.valspar.com).
Accessorize with coloured towels, such as House & Home’s Signature Egyptian
cotton towels at The Bay (shown, www.hbc.com) — the charcoal shade has a
purple undertone and will pair well with dark wood. To add sparkle,
include ribbed glass bath accessories (shown, also from House & Home
at The Bay).

and hang a mirror above with
modular storage cabinets on

12" x 24" tiles for the floors and
