THE BACK STORY When you find “the one,” you just know it — both in
matters of the heart and in real estate. That was certainly the case for
Toronto stylist and designer Deb Nelson, who spent nearly 10 years trolling
online real-estate listings in Chester, N.S. Her perfect match? A quaint,
1½-storey cottage in the village centre, close to shops and restaurants and a
40-minute commute to the Halifax airport, all within her budget. “I grew up
in the Maritimes. The town is really
,” says Deb, who has more recently
worked her design magic for TV shows like
The Style Dept.
. In 2008, she made an offer on the cottage sight
unseen from Toronto and flew down that weekend to secure the deal.
Less than an hour from Halifax, Chester is a historic
harbour village with fabulous homes and shopping.
