A fresh, juicy colour scheme of
tangerine, apple green, coral and
turquoise adds a modern twist to
rustic ticking stripes and florals.
Warm white walls, a pale green
ceiling and soft but punchy blue
floorboards evoke a country
aesthetic. Black accents add
dimension to the soft pastels.

This open, airyenclosed
porch of a house in Toronto’s east end had the
potential to function as a quasi-cottage getaway
in the city, with its ample nine-by-26-foot size
and dramatic paned windows giving the
space a sunny, welcoming presence. The
multifunctional room serves as the home’s
entertaining area in warmer months and main
entrance and mudroom year-round, but tired
finishes and a sparse, underfurnished look
made it feel like an afterthought.
New built-ins now delineate the space and
provide storage. At one end of the porch, a low
window seat offers a space to don shoes, and a
deep banquette at the other end functions as
cosy seating for a dining area/reading nook.
